Original Contest Information & Rules:

Would you like to see The Tragically Hip on New Year's Eve in Toronto? If you're a big Hip fan, a proud Canadian and a bit of a poet, then you'll get that chance in KickInTheHead.com's Great Canadian Tragically Hip Millenial Concert Poetry Contest.

With thanks to Universal Music and the Virtual Billboard Network, our grand prize winner will receive one pair of tickets to see the The Tragically Hip on December 31, 1999 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. They'll also get to experience live sets by Rheostatics, Hayden, Skydiggers, The Mahones, Starling, Chris Brown and Kate Fenner and Sharkskin

The Tragically Hip It's all about Canada in the New Millenium and how the Tragically Hip are an inspiration to our country, our lives and our future.

So get this straight: It's a poetry contest. But it's a free-form poetry contest (with obvious respect for Mr. Downie's writing style), which means you can enter a haiku, verse, epic or anything else you think might mean poetry to you. And there's only one rule: your poem has to be written using only lyrics from Tragically Hip songs.

If you think you're up to it, e-mail your poem, along with your name, age, city and phone number, to info@kickinthehead.com by Sunday, December 26 @ midnight (PST, to give the kids on the west coast more time).

The kicker for this contest is that it's going to be judged by the Canadian Music Community. Thousands of KickInTheHead.com CanuckleHead Newsletter subscribers will receive a special bulletin on Monday, December 27, asking each of them to vote online for their favourite poem (one vote per registered e-mail address). This means that participant poets and people who don't want to enter the contest can all have a vote if they subscribe.

Online voting closes at 5PM EST on Wednesday, December 29. The composer of the top-ranking poem will be notified immediately. Note that this contest is open to all of Canada, but KickInTheHead.com will not be providing transportation to or accomodation in Toronto. If the winner declines the tickets, they can opt for one of five runner-up prizes (KickInTheHead.com T-Shirts which will be ready in March for CMW).

Questions about this contest can be e-mailed to info@kickinthehead.com.
