Ahhh, Romeo Retarded. Where to begin? They are a new-school punk-rock group that started playing together in late 1998, and are still going strong. Stronger than ever actually...
They started out playing local shows, and when a small fanbase started, the members decided to focus more on the band, recorded a self-produced/released demo CD entitled 'Funk As Puck'. The band practiced at a recording studio (aftter hours) and decided that they could use that equipment to record their demo, and thus, Funk As Puck was created. They also recorded other songs straight off-the-board which were released on the internet with the subtitle 'Retardedly Live in the Studio'. Various other live MP3s were also released onto the Internet. RR plans to go into the studio for February of 1999 to record their first full length CD.
Romeo have completed their first tour last summer, including various cities in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and Ontario. The tour went over quite well, seeing as how their tour bus (which is a little yellow school bus that they plan to paint jet black with flames on the sides) kept breaking down, they had their merchandise box stolen while unloading the bus for a show in Montreal, and forgetting their bassist in Ottawa. They did manage to make enough money to cover all the extra unexpected costs however. When asked about their next tour (which is scheduled for across Canada beginning next June) they commented saying that they will raise their 'expected cost' by about 150%.
Videos for two of Romeo Retardeds songs are currently circulating. These videos are for 'Better Than Trend' and 'Dear Abby'. These videos were created soon after the release of the demo CD, on or about March of 1999. Plans are underway for their first professionally done video, and rumors are that it will be for 'Common Law' (one of RRs new songs).
