Official site: http://www.paulmacneil.com

Record Label: Independent

Biography
Paul is one of the finest traditional Cape Breton style pipers to be found in the world today. He has been playing the bagpipes for approximately 25 years now and has traveled extensively performing his music around the world. In 1989 Paul joined the Halifax Police Pipe Band, continuing to work with the group for 8 years.

By 1993 this band reached the Grade 1 level and Paul served as pipe sergeant at that time. During this time he was also the Pipe Major for the Halifax Police Grade 4 Pipe Band.

Paul left the band in 1996 when he moved from Halifax back home to Cape Breton Island. He now resides in CastleBay where he focuses more on the traditional style of piping, which is used more in the stepdance traditions of Cape Breton.

In addition to being a fabulous player, Paul is also a wonderful composer of tunes. Many of these tunes have been learned by other respected musicians and are played, as well as having been recorded, in recent years. In 1992 Paul and another piper named Jamie MacInnis independently recorded a CD called "Fosgail an Dorus" (Open the Door) which featured a few of Paul’s own compositions as well as a Gaelic song written by his father, Rod C. MacNeil. Paul and his wife Tracey Dares (piano) will be releasing their first album together in June 2000 titled "CastleBayMusic.com". It features traditional Cape Breton tunes and some original tunes written by Paul and Tracey. You will also be treated to a superb piano solo by Tracey on this album ... not to be missed!
