KickInTheHead.com was created to become The Ultimate guide to Canadian Music. We compile accurate, timely information from artists with extensive links to external multimedia, articles and resources. By doing this, we hope to become a definitive resource, the place people look first for Canadian music.
As a free service for Canada's music community, KickInTheHead.com stands alone as a comprehensive, easy-to-use tool for our country's musicians to add and update their own profiles.
As of right now, 8320 artists have the opportunity to share their multimedia files, tour dates, fan sites, biographies, news and other info with thousands of KickInTheHead.com visitors. Many update their 411 several times weekly, regularly adding gigs and mp3s. This results in greater exposure to other musicians, fans and music industry. For example, G.I. Jill, a young Edmonton quartet, credited this site with getting them radio airplay in Vancouver after being selected as one of our featured artists.
KickInTheHead.com is a forum for discussion, interaction and the enjoyment of sonic art. Our goal is to help people achieve a greater appreciation for Canadian music. And we encourage visitors to explore different 'genres' by improving upon the traditional one-word labels used by journalists, record stores and other music sites.
We ask artists to define their own 'genre statement' to allow visitors greater flexibility in searching our database; Why search for funk when what you really want to hear are some sultry vocals? It's up to the artists to decide how they want to be found.
The results are that people can discover new Canadian music and learn more about their favourite bands.
For musicians, KickInTheHead.com is by no means the only place you should register. Signing up with search engines and directories like mp3.com, ubl.com, musicconx, tunes.com and rollingstone.com may get you some great exposure to an international audience. (Editor's Note: a feature article on how bands should register with directories and search engines will appear here in Apr. 2000). But, if you want to be seen and heard in Canada, we hope you choose our site as one worth regularly maintaining. Adding tour dates, MP3 and news is good for you and great for us.
